Self-healing algorithm for spare capacity planning in survivable optical networks

Rerouting and spare capacity planning for link failures in order to buildup survivable wavelength division multiplexing networks are investigated. A simple heuristic self-healing algorithm is used as a solution technique. The state matrix of the network is used for path rerouting of wavelength paths and virtual wavelength paths. The performance of restoration ratio vs. restoration time, is investigated via simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed self-healing scheme has very good behavior for single network link failure.
