Verifiable Competencies for Production Technology

Abstract Currently there is no uniform concept of competence in the engineering community that sufficiently accounts for the special requirements of production technology. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a uniform, unambiguous concept of competence that can be applied to production technology. To this end, the Institute for Industrial Manufacturing and Management IFF has assessed common definitions of skills and competencies. In addition, definitions from other fields, which, like production engineering, are characterized by a turbulent environment, were analyzed and compared with the requirements of production engineering. The resulting definition is universal but still reflects the requirements of production engineering.
