Video quality monitoring platform for digital terrestrial television

This paper presents a video quality monitoring platform for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service providers that rapidly detects the source of a possible low quality for their broadcasted programs. The platform monitors both the video quality and the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. The test measurements were performed on channel 54, transmitted with Digital Video Broadcasting — Terrestrial standard (DVB-T) before the analog terrestrial television shutdown in Romania, and on channel 30, currently transmitted with DVB-T2 standard. The results proved that the platform allows the DTT service providers to deliver the best video quality together with channel bandwidth efficiency use.
