Characterization of the fringing window of a magnetic core

The design of magnetic cores of some specific applications can be a technological challenge. According to the requirements of the application, a detailed distribution of the flux density should be known. A magnetic core with an air gap where the flux density should have a very high uniformity is analyzed in this paper. In the considered application it is necessary to characterize the fringing effects. Because the determination of the magnetic field distribution, based on analytical solutions is somehow complex, the available computational tools (as for instance, some based in the finite element analysis) can provide the required results. The generic characterization of the flux density distribution and the fringing effects, according to the dimensions and magnetic characteristics of the magnetic circuit, are characterized and discussed in this paper.
