Current state-of-the-art applications utilizing CdTe detectors

Abstract The performance of room temperature CdTe solid state detectors has been significantly improved over the last decade. CdTe detectors are more often used in industrial and research applications. The paper presents two types of CdTe detectors commonly in use: The first type operates in a pulse counting mode and the second type operates in a current mode. The paper summarizes the present performance of CdTe detectors and discusses their shortcomings withrespect to charge collection properties. Four different applications utilizing a single CdTe detector or an array of CdTe detectors in the fields of industry, astrophysical research, nuclear medicine and dosimetry are described.
