THE MODEL ROAD USER

The term model road user can have different acceptations. This article describes only one of them, not the exemplary or pattern road user, and also not the user of a beautifully designed and well maintained road, but the road user as he can be found in scientific models. A sketch of a cognitive process model of the road user and in particular the ACT (adaptive control of thought) theory is used here. Examples of motor skill given are; the change gear behaviour and a cognitive skill; the route choice. All human decisions, including traffic situations, can be broken down into steps. (TRRL)
