Research here is focussed on semantic aspects of language processing. Current projects are concerned with natural language access to databases. Their specific aim is question interpretation relying on the use of general semantics. This implies word and text characterisation by formulae and patterns involving general semantic category and relation primitives. This work follows earlier research on approaches to the determination, representation and exploitation of text meaning making use, in different ways, of semantic primitives and patterns, which were investigated in systems for sentence paraphrase, story understanding, and summary generation.
