IMPORTANCE OF PRECISION STATEMENTS IN DEVELOPING PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR CEMENT

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) favors performance standards. It is required that all test methods contain sections on precision and bias. Precision is estimated using ASTM Practice for Conducting an Interlaboratory Test Program to Determine the Precision of Test Methods for Construction Materials (C 802), which involves interlaboratory cooperative testing. With voluntary consensus, the Institute for Standards Research, and the expertise of the technical committes, ASTM is capable of producing the performance standards of the future.
