Basilar Membrane Response Measured in Damaged Cochleas of Cats

A variety of techniques have been used in the past to measure the vibrations of the basilar membrane in different animals (Bekesy, 1947, stroboscopic microscope; Johnstone and Boyle, 1967, Mossbauer effect; Wilson and Johnstone, 1972, 1975, capacitive probe; Kohiloffel, 1972, fuzziness detection). The present method utilizes an interferometric technique with high sensitivity. Basilar membrane vibrations were measured in cats utilizing this technique.
