Some Practical Issues and Examples in Waves

At this point in our text, we have completed the basic tutorial portion, and have described and demonstrated the fundamental WAVES and VHDL construction and execution processes. While the examples we presented in the basic tutorial portion of our text served well to illustrate the basic concepts of WAVES and its interaction with VHDL models (i.e., UUT), we did not explain WAVES’ capability to handle more realistic and complex timing issues. Essentially, we did not wish to add complexity to these examples which would have distracted from understanding the basic WAVES concepts we were demonstrating. In Chapter 7, we also described the complete anatomy of the external files, to assist in creating efficient test vectors. Now, we are armed with knowledge and ready to add some realism.
