Mycoplasma-like bodies in phloem cells of Oryza sativa. Electron microscope observations.

SUMMARYPortions of leaves from rice plants affected by the yellowing disease were examined in the electron microscope. Mycoplasma-like bodies, in different stages of growth, were observed in young phloem companion and parenchyma cells. These cells showed ultrastructural modifications suggesting that the infection may cause changes in some synthetic processes. They are thought to be related to the multiplication and growth of mycoplasmata in the host cells.
