Introduction to the STEbus

Abstract On 10 December 1987 the IEEE Standards Board formally approved the STEbus specification as IEEE 1000. With this endorsement the STEbus could become widely used in embedded control systems and instrumentation. This introductory paper briefly surveys the history of the bus, describes the important features of the standard, and considers the benefits of adopting the bus for low- to mid-performance embedded systems.
