A Novel Channel Switching Scenario in Multicast IPTV Networks

In this paper we focus on the multicast IPTV networks area. In the context of the Quality of Experience we propose a novel channel switching scenario to optimize the IPTV zapping time. Therefore, to switch between channels, we propose to send at first a join message to the requested channel before leaving the currently watched channel. Simulation results show that our solution improve channel zapping time and may reduce blackout time without any increase of the multicast bandwidth utilization in the network core.
