A parametric study using ansoft HFSS and ansoft designer on the effect of aperture diameter on the transmission properties of its array

A rigorous parametric study on the effect of aperture diameter on transmission properties of an array of apertures is performed. Unit cells include centered apertures. Centered circular aperture diameter swept for a wide range and different simulations using Ansoft HFSS and Ansoft Designer is accomplished. Ansoft Designer is shown to be unable in properly treating the unit cells which have some metallic parts touching unit cell's boundary. Using a new feature in Ansoft HFSS 11.0, TE - Mode and TM - Mode transmission properties of an array of centered apertures is investigated. With the unit cell having the same transverse dimensions as X-band waveguide, and sweeping aperture diameter a single resonance for TE - Mode and double resonances for TM - Mode is discovered, in the single-mode frequency range of X-band waveguide.
