Simple padé approximations for the width of a Voigt profile

Abstract A simple approach to describe the width of a Voigt profile as a function of the relative contributions of Gaussian and Lorentzian broadening is presented. Its application to typical experiments of linewidth measurements is straightforward and an accuracy better than 0.1% is obtained. An example relating to the correction of Doppler effect in microwave linewidth spectroscopy is discussed in detail.
