MISALIGNMENT IN BOLTED JOINTS

EFFECT OF MISALIGNMENT PATTERNS OF FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF BOLTED JOINTS WAS INVESTIGATED, AND RESULTS COMPARED WITH PREVIOUS FINDINGS. CONCLUSIONS INDICATED THAT UNSYMMETRICAL MISALIGNMENT MIGHT CAUSE DEFINITE READJUSTMENTS IN JOINT BEHAVIOR WHILE IN THE LOADING PROCESS. MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS ULTIMATE LOAD AND JOINT EFFICIENCY WERE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGED. BECAUSE READJUSTMENTS REQUIRE PLASTIC DEFORMATIONS, PRESENT RESULTS APPLY ONLY TO STEELS WITH SUFFICIENT PLASTIC DEFORMABILITY RANGES.
