Studies on Combustion Cycles in a Small-Sized High Speed DI Diesel Engine

In Order to pursue further increase of thermal efficiency in an internal combustion engine, research for improvement in cycle efficiency of a small high speed diesel engine was carried out. A large number of combustion cycles with variable conditions were calculated by means of a personal computer and methods of increasing thermal efficiency were investigated.Comparable statistical investigations were also made in which maximum combustion pressure in cylinder was held constant. As a result, some comprehensive conclusions were obtained with regard to relationship between efficiencies and variables of combustion cycles.
