Progress in free-space digital optics

Free-space digital optics is a new emerging hardware platform designed to build digital systems supporting digital signals as opposed to analog systems supporting digital signals[1]. These digital systems can optically interconnect discrete logic gates, smart pixels, and electronic multichip modules (MCM). The goal of this new platform is to complement and enhance the existing digital electronic technology with free-space interconnections.
