Effect of variability in weather conditions on conductor temperature and the dynamic rating of transmission lines

Simultaneous weather and conductor data were collected from locations situated in New York State and western Massachusetts. The two New York State locations represent the termination points of a 230 kV, 70 mi overhead line. The transmission line consists of a Drake 795 kemil ACSR conductor. Data were monitored using online sensor equipment. The variability in weather conditions, conductor temperatures, and calculated dynamic ratings along transmission lines is analyzed. >
