Traffic-based sleep management method in mobile Ad Hoc networks

As a effective way for energy conservation in mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANETs),sleep management has gained broad at-tention. Sleep management turns off the radio to save energy consumption in idle state. Sleep management achieves the aim at prolonging networks' lifetime and increasing networks' throughput under the penalty of end-to-end delay and delivery ratio. A quantitative approach TSM (traffic-based sleep management) is designed to solve these questions where each node independently evaluated sleep-wake sche-dule by history-traffic and found unreachable neighbors by the loss of RTS. The NS-2 simulation indicates that compared to AODV@802.11 approach, the proposed method significantly increases networks' lifetime and throughput with little impact in end-to-end delay and delivery ratio.
