Dual Mode Controller Configuration of PV System for On-Grid and Off-Grid Application

Exponentially increasing modern day energy trends and shrinking conventional resources heavily demand integration of available distributed resources like solar power into the grid. Henceforth, dual mode control configuration for a PV fed solar pump is presented in this paper. It comprises of Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and $L-C$ filter for integrating solar PV system with utility. The controller operates VSC as a current source for feeding power into the grid and on the contrary, as a voltage source for feeding the irrigation pump load in islanded mode. The controller also exhibits smooth transition capability between the two functionally distinct modes. Simulation and experimental results are extracted and compiled to demonstrate the efficacy and reliability of the presented control approach for implementation on the field.
