A Single-Camera Stereo Apparatus for Road Detection

This article proposes a new imaging system that combines one camera and four mirrors to achieve the function of a stereo camera. Stereo cameras are usually expensive, although stereo vision has its advantage over monocular vision due to its ability to extract three-dimensional information through disparity. Our device is cheap and can be attached to a single-camera to build a virtual stereo system. It has a suitable field of view for road detection task. Our experimental results demonstrate that this system can be applied to the road detection task for intelligent vehicles. We also propose a novel algorithm which can achieve promising results on road detection.
