Measurement of the mechanical stress in mild steel by means of rotation of magnetic field strength - part 2: biaxial stress

Abstract Experimental results are given to show that the difference in the principal stresses causes magnetic anisotropy in mild steel. Equipment (the rotation rig) described in a previous paper demonstrates this effect for a biaxial stress state. Also magnetic evidence is given to show that steel that has been uniformly strained plastically in tension appears to be in residual compression when the load is removed.
