Effectiveness of VAR sources for power system performance enhancement

Consideration of reactive power supply is an important aspect of power system operation and planning. This paper discusses the effectiveness of reactive power supply on power system performance. Case studies are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of reactive power supply to improve the voltage, maintain adequate voltage stability margin and reduce transient voltage dip during contingencies.
