Contribution ofActive Contour Approach toImageUnderstanding

Thepaper proposes aformal, though asimple, modelof theactivity ofhumanvision system. Thatmodelserves asareference point fordescription ofrelational andcontextual recognition andal- lowstoformulate adefinition ofimageunderstanding problem. As apotential solution ofthat problem active contour methods arepro- posed, whichdonotpossess somelimitations ofclassic recognition algorithms. Moreover, they canbeusednotonly asmethods ofcon- struction ofcontextual pixel classifiers, butalso asmethods ofidentifi- cation ofrelations between anyarbitrary morecomplicated structures (concepts).
