This paper focuses on modeling, control and performance study of DC microgrid considering both DC and AC loads. The control schemes among various converters have been proposed for DC microgrid to achieve two desired goals: to extract maximum power from each power source and to regulate DC bus voltage at the input of the inverter. The main objective of this study is to design and control a microgrid that guarantees the energy continuity. The developed microgrid system can operate in a grid connected or autonomous mode under various generation and load conditions. Simulation results are presented using MATLAB, Simulink and SimPowerSystems environments based on the mathematical and dynamic electrical models developed for the microgrid system. Different resource conditions and load capacities are considered in this study to validate the control methods. The simulation results show that the coordinated control schemes can maintain stable operation of the DC microgrid in both grid connected and isolated mode.
