Lightning indirect effects on UH-1H helicopter: Numerical simulation analysis and EM shielding

Lightning strike is a kind of threaten to the flying helicopter. The electromagnetic (EM) field, produced by the lightning attack, induces over voltage and current on the onboard cable bundles which result in disturbing or damaging of the sophisticated electronic and electrical equipment and seriously imperil flight safety. To obtain the distribution of internal magnetic field, we set an imitative UH-1H 3D model to conduct a simulation of impulse current injection in this paper. According to the simulation results, we establish a simple model of a new shielding material called BLW to get material property of the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness by means of the plane wave irradiation method. Besides, the material is used for the windshield in the entire helicopter model to simulate the comprehensive shielding effectiveness.
