Suboptimal symbol-by-symbol demodulation of continuous phase modulated signals

This paper develops a class of suboptimum symbol-by-symbol demodulators called Bayesian conditional decision feedback estimators (BCDFEs), for the demodulation of continuous phase modulated (CPM) signals. The BCDFEs offer a trade-off between bit error performance (BEP) and computational complexity/the number of integrators used, by varying certain parameters. Some additional complexity reduction schemes, which can be used in conjunction with the BCDFEs, are given. These result in significant reduction in complexity, with little loss in the BEP performance at high SNRs. These demodulators are useful in cases where symbol-by-symbol demodulation is necessary.
