Geospatial Database for the Generation of Multidimensional Virtual City Models Dedicated to Urban Analysis and Decision-Making

The provision of a data base for the digital representation of a virtual spatial model is used as an example to demonstrate how a geographical problem solution can be achieved using modern service-based techniques and methods. Moreover it is explained which problems exist in the spectrum of digital twins and spatial databases with regard to the handling of ubiquitous geodata, which necessitate the conception of a new service-oriented approach. The database as the central medium towards a virtual representation of the urban environment is a particular focus. Ubiquitous geospatial data demand meaningful tools for integration and harmonisation, which are also included as part of a modular process chain. In this approach, procedures and workflow are designed on the basis of generic data models and standard schemes, with the aim of ensuring transparency and transferability, both methodologically and spatially. A workflow describing data acquisition, processing and utilisation is presented and exemplified by the Middle Eastern agglomeration region of East Jerusalem.
