Adaptive Set-Point Using Flow Estimation for Oxygen Control in Wastewater Plant

Global population growth as well as economic development result in increasing the quantity of waste, which also leads to an increased level of environment pollution. Wastewater treatment processes usually follow standard control procedures but, as they are not considered critical to implement emergency strategies, are not prepared for unexpected situations like floods. This can affect the correct functioning of the processes. This paper presents an oxygen control strategy and proposes a method for handling plant operation in such cases. The solution is evaluated in a case study in Campina, Prahova County, which serves 50000 habitants with an input charge of $13373~\mathrm {m}^{3}/\mathrm {d}\mathrm {a}\mathrm {y}$. The results showed this control strategy can ensure a proper variation of the oxygen so that the biochemical processes are not affected in case of fast changes in the input flow.
