From CAD/CAM to simulation: automatic model generation for mechanical devices

Constructing an abstract model of a physical system is an important step in an attempt to analyze the system and predict or understand its behavior, but the construction of these abstract models usually requires considerable human effort. This chapter discusses the problem of automating this model-generation process, at least for certain physical systems, and describes a working program to automatically generate a model for the simulation of a machine’s behavior.
