Effective estimation of speed and rotor position of a PM synchronous motor drive by a Kalman filtering technique

The estimation of the speed and the rotor position of a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive by means of a stochastic filtering technique is considered. The proposed estimation algorithm does not require knowledge of the mechanical parameters and initial rotor position, thus overcoming two of the biggest drawbacks of the speed and position estimation systems already developed. In addition, the estimation algorithm is merged with a predictive algorithm for the control of the motor currents. The two algorithms share some routines, which reduces the computational burden.<<ETX>>
