Abstract ‘Subjective programming’ means programming based on the subjective judgment of a decision maker. The importance of this kind of programming has been increasing, because the subjective judgment of the decision maker plays an important role us problems under consideration become more complex and have more conflicting objectives. One of the authors† has recentlypublished a new kind of optimization method, called the interactive relaxation method, as well as several theoretical analyses of subjective programming. In this paper, the method is modified so that it may be applicable to more general cases. The modified method is applied to en optimal operation problem in packaging systems in automated warehouses. The efficiency of the method is verified by experiment.
