Integrating real-time optimization and control for optimal operation: Application to the bio-ethanol process

Abstract In this work, the integration of real-time optimization and control for optimal operation of a continuous bio-ethanol process is investigated, providing a first insight into a plantwide control methodology for bioprocess applications. The results obtained are compared to the open loop behavior of the process, showing the importance of incorporating an optimization-based control strategy to the traditional pH and temperature control on bioprocesses.
