Cambridge Handbook of Culture, Organizations, and Work: Intercultural training for the global workplace: review, synthesis, and theoretical explorations

A review of the literature on intercultural trainin g shows that this field of research has been theory driven from its early days since the early research ers focused on building theory. Three major review s of the field of intercultural training in the past seven y ears have helped present a historical overview of t he ield as well as a synthesis of its theories and methods. A number of nested models grounded in a comprehensiv e theoretical framework have emerged, and some effort has been made to synthesize the fields of accultur ation and intercultural training breaking new theoretical grounds for the development of various intercultur al training strategies. This review builds on the past re earch and proposes a theoretical framework that can be utilized by business and government or non-governme nt organizations. It synthesizes the learning mode ls that have hitherto been scattered across the litera tur , which will aid young scholars to better focus their research agenda. It is hoped that the chapter will also guide practitioners to systematically develop intercultural training programs that are informed b y theory. Theoretical Explorations in Intercultural Training
