Investigating the judgemental marking process: an overview of our recent research

fair way to identify and reward ability. Twenty years later the boards were working out their responses to accusations of not being fair. It is how far the present examination system is seen as being fair to individuals which will make the difference between it being perceived as a liberalising or a reactionary one. Independent examining boards are well-placed to respond to this challenge and they continue to play an important part in maintaining the credibility of that system.
