Uncertainty Effects on an Offshore Structure Subjected to Wave and Seismic Forces

In order to enhance the reliability of an offshore structure, it is essential to clarify dynamic response evaluations in severe situations. If the offshore structure is subjected to severe dynamic loads such as wave forces and seismic forces with uncertainties, it is very important to figure out the dynamic response characteristic for the reliable design of the structure. In the present study, the MCS (Monte Carlo Simulation) approach is applied to evaluate the effect of uncertainty on an idealized three dimensional offshore structure. The reliability evaluation of the offshore platform subjected to severe wave and seismic forces with uncertainties are examined by the MCS method. It is shown that since the uncertainty with respect to the wave and seismic force plays important effects on the response evaluation, it is essential for the reliable design of the structure to account for the response property due to uncertainties.
