Periodic orbit approach to Stark-induced resonances

The authors use the semiclassical periodic orbit quantisation approach to calculate field-induced Stark resonances of a hydrogen atom above the zero-field threshold. This allows a very simple interpretation of the observed resonances, lineshapes and energy dependences by arguments involving the stability of the periodic orbit between the nucleus and the cathode.
