An Evaluation of Two Methods for Assessment of MMH Activities

Two methods were evaluated for prediction of manual materials handling tasks using a bag as the container. In the first approach task variables of frequency and height of lift and dynamic strength of the subjects were used to predict lifting capacity of individuals for lifting bags from floor and knuckle height levels to shoulder height. The second approach utilized the same task variables along with several static strength measures. Evaluation of the developed models indicated that both approaches estimated lifting capacity with a reasonable degree of accuracy, however, the model containing the dynamic strength variable was found to predict lifting capacity with less error.
