VIBRATION ISOLATION, ANALYSIS AND EXPERIMENTS

The isolation of vibrations is an important aspect in the design of road vehicles. A good vibration isolation system should provide a high degree of human comfort and help to avoid excessive dynamic material stresses without affecting negatively vehicle performance factors such as handling, cornering behaviour and braking ability. The understanding of the dynamic behaviour of vibration isolation systems is necessary for the prediction of responses of vehicle systems to special deterministic road profiles. In the vehicle research laboratory the vibration isolation systems have been studied both theoretically and experimentally. In this article, some research work on the vibration isolation of road vehicles in the laboratory in recent years is described. (TRRL)
