Prospecting Collection and Ethnobotanical Studies of Traditional Rice Varieties in Guinea

Guinea is one of the largest rice producing countries in West Africa. Rice cultivation is a very old tradition in this country. Eustachian stories from the Pit "Traveling on the West Coast of Africa" (1479-1480) attest to largescale rice cultivation in Guinea long before the Portuguese introduced Asian rice varieties, Oryza sativa.
