Medical Pneumoperitoneum in a Neonate: A Diagnostic Dilemma

We report a case of medical pneumoperitoneum in a newborn female child. She had severe birth asphyxia. Various resuscitative measures were carried out, following which she developed massive pneumoperitoneum. Since the child did not respond to medical measures an exploratory laparotomy was performed which revealed no underlying cause.
