High performance access mechanisms for slotted rings

The slotted ring enhanced by spatial slot reuse is one potential approach for data transfer and admission control in high performance networks. This paper presents a method for calculating the possible gain in transmission capacity by slot reuse which depends on the given traffic distribution. Using these results we discuss different media access control schemes implemented in several protocols (ATMRing, CRMA-II, and MetaRing) with respect to their capability of maintaining fairness and bounded access delays.
