A novel open-circuit fault diagnostic method for dual-winding fault-tolerant permanent magnet motor drive system

A novel open-circuit fault diagnostic method for dual-winding fault-tolerant permanent magnet (DFPM) motor drive system is proposed and investigated. The proposed open-circuit fault diagnostic method uses the normalized currents' average values and average absolute values to formulate the diagnostic variables and incorporates the merits of them. Due to the normalized diagnostic variables and the introduction of currents' average absolute values, the false alarms are avoided effectively and the open-circuit fault can be detected and located more accurately and real-timely. The simulation results prove the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed open-circuit fault diagnostic method.
