Generation mean analysis in brinjal

An experiment to study the gene effects through six parameter analysis was planned on brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) and six crosses were utilised for the study. The predominance of additive gene effects as well as non-additive gene effects (additivexadditive, additivex dominance and dominancexdominance) were recorded for fruit weight, fruits/ plant and yield/ plant. The study suggested that characters governed by additive component could be improved through selection while in other crosses selection in later generations of segregating population would be meaningful.
