Advantages and Applications of Eddy Current Thermography Testing for Comprehensive and Reliable Defect Assessment

Eddy current thermography testing is an emerging te chnology in nondestructive testing. This technology combines eddy current and thermographic NDT techniques to pr ovide a fast and efficient method for defect detect ion and characterisation over a relatively large area. The technique uses induced eddy currents to heat the sa mple being tested and defect detection is based on the changes of the induced eddy currents flows revealed by the rmal visualisation captured by an infrared camera. This work discusses the advantages provided by the eddy current thermography technique and presents results from 3D FEM simulation and experimental investigations of eddy current thermography on defects in metallic samples . The work demonstrates the effectiveness of eddy c urrent thermography in providing comprehensive and reliabl e defect assessment.
