FATIGUE AND REPEATED-LOAD ELASTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF INSERVICE ASPHALT-TREATED MATERIALS

This report describes the results of an investigation of the fatigue life and repeated-load elastic properties of blackbase and asphalt concrete from inservice highways in Texas. Cores from seven recently constructed highway pavements were obtained and tested under repeated tensile stresses using the repeated-load indirect tensile test. Experimental estimates of fatigue life, resilient modulus of elasticity, and resilient Poisson's ratio were made. In addition, an estimate of the variation of these properties to be expected in a highway was obtained. The relationships between the dynamic and fatigue properties and the static properties were also evaluated in an attempt to establish useful correlations.
