Ultrasmall optical logic gate based on graphene–SiO2 metamaterial

Abstract. We propose an ultrasmall channel based on graphene–SiO2 metamaterial, which is composed of alternating layers of graphene and SiO2 periodically. By tuning the permittivity of the graphene through the applied voltage, the basic logic gate-controllable channel made by the graphene–SiO2 metamaterial is able to control the light transmission, which can be used to work as optical logic gate with ultrasmall footprint and large extinction ratio, including the AND, OR, XOR, and XOR logic gates.
