LARGE SCALE DATA ACQUISITION & MANAGEMENT: METROWEST WATER SUPPLY TUNNEL PROJECT

The MetroWest Water Supply Tunnel Project is a 17.6 mile long, deep rock pressurized tunnel, being constructed to replace the old Weston and Hultman aqueducts which currently supply water for the Metropolitan Boston area. This paper provides a geologic summary of the tunnel alignment. In order to generate the timely and detailed tunnel mapping data necessary for pressure tunnel projects, a system capable of collecting and managing the information was designed and is described in this paper.
