A Practical Method for Industrial Heat Stress Allowance Determination

Abstract A methodology for determining the heat stress allowances of industrial workers is presented. The methodology has been developed for use by industrial engineers as part of their production assignment and scheduling duties. The methodology provides exposure and recovery allowances in tabular form where the allowances have been developed using the appropriate equations, concepts found in the physiological literature, and meteorological data. The assumptions necessary to provide tabular values are emphasized. A comparison is made with heat stress allowances determined by more arbitrary methods.
